Botanical Drawing with Colored Pencils
Discover the timeless art of botanical illustration in the serene setting of Sherman Library & Gardens. In this engaging workshop, you’ll learn to see plants through an artist’s eye—observing shape, proportion, light, and shadow to create accurate and expressive drawings. We’ll cover foundational skills including, then apply these principles using the luminous medium of colored pencils.
Through step-by-step demonstrations and personalized guidance, you’ll explore techniques such as layering, blending, shading, and fine detailing to capture the delicate textures, vibrant hues, and intricate forms of seasonal blooms. Each participant will work from real plant specimens, gaining both technical skills and a deeper appreciation for botanical beauty.
All materials are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own sketchbook or colored pencils.
This class is designed for all skill levels—whether you’re picking up a pencil for the first time or refining your artistic practice, you’ll leave with new techniques, confidence, and your own inspired botanical artwork.
