History, Ecology, and Hands-On Learning at Crystal Cove – Members-Only Excursion
Go beyond Sherman’s garden gates on a Members-Only Excursion with Crystal Cove Conservancy. This guided coastal experience blends history, ecology, and hands-on stewardship at of one of Orange County’s pristine costal preserves. The program begins with a brief introduction to the Crystal Cove Historic District, followed by a coastal ecology walk exploring the local ecosystem, coastal geology, marine conservation, and native versus invasive species. The experience concludes with a guided tidepool exploration timed to low tide, offering an up-close look at Crystal Cove’s unique coastal ecosystems and conservation story.
The excursion will be led by Erin Andreatta, Program Manager for Advocacy & Public Programs at Crystal Cove Conservancy and a conservation biologist by training. Erin has worked across coastal and inland ecosystems, from tidepools and beaches to canyons and native plant communities. Her work focuses on connecting people to the land and ocean through immersive, place-based experiences that blend natural history, ecology, and conservation storytelling.
Please plan to arrive in the Los Trancos parking lot at 1:45 pm to allow time to walk or shuttle to the Crystal Cove Historic District, where the excursion will begin. The excursion will begin promptly at 2 pm.
Parking & Shuttle
Members are responsible for their own transportation to and from Crystal Cove Conservancy. Please park in the Los Trancos parking lot; there is a fee of $16 per vehicle. You may choose to walk or ride the shuttle to the Crystal Cove Historic District. The cost to ride the shuttle is $2 each way.
Mobility & Terrain Notes
This excursion involves walking on uneven terrain, including sand, packed dirt paths, and rocky tidepools. Portions of the experience require extended periods of standing and walking, and the tidepool exploration includes uneven, sometimes slippery surfaces. Guests should wear footwear with good grip, be comfortable walking on sand, and plan for shoes that may get wet during the tidepool portion of the program.
