Four Living Legends of Newport: Untold Tales from the Town's Past
What really happened behind the decisions that shaped Newport Beach as we know it today? Join us for a rare and revealing evening as four of the city’s most influential civic leaders share firsthand accounts of the people, debates, and defining moments that transformed parts of Newport Beach and preserved others. Moderated by Bill Lobdell, Newport Beach’s historian laureate, this dynamic conversation goes beyond headlines to uncover the stories behind the story.
The panel features Nancy Gardner, former mayor and co-founder of the Newport Beach chapter of the Surfrider Foundation; Walt Howald, longtime community activist and former Citizen of the Year; Tom Johnson, publisher of Stu News Newport and former Daily Pilot publisher; and Don Webb, former mayor, 33-year city employee, and local historian. Together, they will offer personal reflections and insider perspectives on the choices that shaped neighborhoods, protected the coastline, and guided the city’s growth.
Whether you are a longtime resident or newly connected to the community, this is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the leaders who helped define Newport Beach’s character and future. Space is limited, so reserve your seat today and be part of this engaging conversation.
